Brockleians RFC 1st XV vs Law Society 1st XV
Brocks RFC

Law society turned up nice and early on looking keen and organised, shortly followed by the ref who was sponsored by Stephen's Solicitors ("Fix" I hear you say?). A beautiful sunny day at middle park avenue was witness to something even rarer... The Brocks warmed up!

Kick off was graciously taken by Captain Bender, it looked pretty as his boot approached ball, unfortunately that’s where the prettiness ended as he spooned the kick into the opposition forwards (just about legal).

Brocks dominated the first half and I was shocked to watch as a clearly skilled opposition was denied possession for 40 straight minutes which consisted of the neat little move by the Brock’s backline, a tidy scrum on the opposition 22 resulted in Ian Bender making a run forward and offloading from the ground to a wanting John Duffy who destroyed all that dared to stand in front of him and the try line before touching down, 5-0 Brocks.

2nd Half started well with a much changed Brocks lineup, unfortunately 7 seconds later they scored as Tommy "safe as houses" Spooner got under the kick off and was unlucky to knock on straight into the path of a chasing winger who touched down for a try. As the 2nd half proceeded lack of fitness was clearly having an effect and, despite powerful running by Alex Wynne-Williams and Tony Wheeler, Brocks struggled to keep up the excellent support that had us dominating the 1st half. Although in the scrums and lineout’s Brocks continued to dominate the lack of a strong defense and open play support meant Law Society were able to run in a series of tries making the final score 5-24.

For our 2nd game of the season we continue to make good progress and if we can extend our 1st half performance to 80 minutes we can look forward to a strong season in Kent 2. Congratulations to everyone for a strong performance and especially Alex Wynne-Williams who takes the Brockleians Man-of-the-Match award.
